Great Leaders Leverage the Power of Strategic Communication for Influence

Have you ever felt frustrated when trying to get others to cooperate or support your ideas? You're not alone! This can be one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. But you can do something about it!

Strategic communication is a proactive approach to understand your audiences and craft your messages to align with their interests and motives. This mini course will provide you with the skills and tools you need to gain cooperation from senior executive and co-workers. It will give you the ability to engage your employees, rather than relying on the use of power to get limited compliance.

Our mini courses are designed to give you "just what you need to get started" on a special topic in leadership and management. I keep the lessons short and focused on one learning objective. For Strategic Communications,the learning outcome is as stated in the subtitle:

On completion of this course, you will be able to apply effective communication techniques to gain influence and cooperation

Unlike the regular length core courses, we don't have a self-evaluation component in mini-courses. And unlike the more extensive exercises and case study in full length courses, we will have only a few reflective exercises and one brief case study. You should be able to finish this course and start applying techniques for strategic communication within a couple of hours.

But as with our regular core courses, I will provide you with some tips to continue your learning and development in Strategic Communications. And as always, feel free to email me with questions!

Who should take this course?

This mini course is designed for anyone wanting to develop their leadership skills, and is ready and willing to put these skills in to practice. In particular, it would benefit team leaders, managers, supervisors and executive that need to get cooperation from a variety of stakeholders. Ideally, you should have some experience and knowledge of leadership to get the greatest benefit from this course. But if you are keen to learn, don't let lack of leadership experience stop you! It's great to develop these skills before you are "put to the test", so to speak. These skills will position you to be successful in a dynamic and challenging work environment.

Debbie Narver (BSc MBA MScIB) is an experienced manager, teacher and consultant. She has a passion for helping managers & leaders to develop their full potential. She brings her full range of education, training & knowledge to her coaching and teaching - drawing on practical examples from her own experiences. Located on beautiful Vancouver Island, Canada, Debbie specializes in online facilitation, and works with diverse and geographically dispersed teams and organizations.

Based on her own experiences of transitioning from a technical (science based) background into management, she focuses on helping managers & leaders to develop very practical skills for leading in complex and challenging environments. While doing an MBA developed her skills in advanced business administration, she wants to bring those essential skills to others. But recognizing that not every manager needs or wants an MBA, Debbie strives to bring these complex, often jargon-laden techniques to a broader audience. She uses a lot of examples from the real world, and introduces practical and low-cost tools that can be used in almost any size and type of organization.

Debbie's areas of expertise include Strategic Management and Cross Cultural Leadership. The latter is based on some unique research she conducted during her MBA program, exploring the dynamics of culturally diverse teams. She has carefully designed her portfolio of courses to develop the skills that managers & leaders most need to be successful in a dynamic and challenging work place. She truly enjoys coaching and teaching, and loves to hear from her students!
